Pinterest for Real Estate

If you haven’t heard of Pinterest yet, then you probably don’t have a Facebook profile, because its showing up all over my News Feed these days, which made me curious about Pinterest for real estate and just what I could accomplish from a marketing standpoint.  Some are praising Pinterest for real estate because of its backlinking capabilities and others are pretty harsh critics of real estate agents use of Pinterest.  We’ll take a look at both sides and please, let us know what you think.

Pinterest for Real Estate | How it Works

Pinterest is a fun social media site where you can link to images that you really identify with and share them across the site to let people take a look at images that help define who you are as a person.  Some popular categories on pinterest are photography, recipes, landscapes, and architecture.  So why not display some gorgeous pieces of properties on Pinterest for real estate?

The first step is to create a board and give it a named based around the pictures that you choose to include on it.  Think of it has a bulletin board with purpose.

Next you’ll want to pin some pictures.  You can do this simply by clicking “Add” and then “Pin it.”  Then go ahead and include the link to the picture that you’d like to include (if you’re using Pinterest for real estate, I’d recommend pinning pictures of your properties that link back to your real estate website or blog, so that you can draw traffic there).

If folks find your picture on the site then they may choose to repin it, which is great because it will make your picture much more visible on the site.

Pinterest for Real Estate | Backlinking

If you haven’t used Pinterest for real estate then you may not fully understand its backlinking potential, thats alright, here’s an article from RealEstateMarketingBlog explaining just how backlinking works on Pinterest for real estate.

Repins SEO

In other words, when you pin an image that becomes viral on Pinterest (i.e. users repin it to their own boards), you are getting a source-link on each of those repinned images that now exist on other users’ boards.

Got it?  So posting beautiful pictures of homes and great copywriting can really add a lot of backlinks for your blog.  Give it a try!

Pinterest for Real Estate | Haters

So apparently not everyone is excited about Pinterest for real estate as I am, check out this blog post from an angry Pinterest user:

What is social media, anyway? It’s really the social side of your résumé, your life laid bare to validate who you are as a person. In my opinion, and this is evolving, social media is not (always) for business. It’s about you as a social creature. Are you one-sided in your social media world, yammering on about yourself and your business and your agenda? Or do you like recipes, repurposed furniture, beautiful dresses, newsworthy items and things of beauty? That’s Pinterest.

So real estate agents, please do not clutter up Pinterest with your “new” bright idea to sell houses. If you do bring that to Pinterest, I promise you won’t find clients. We’re not buying. But for goodness sake, do join and let us get to know you as a person. Let us see your other side of life. Not everything is made for selling real estate.

Although I can identify with some of her points, I still think that some people are into looking at beautiful pieces of property.  What do you think about Pinterest for real estate?
